iCAN Overview - CAN-Bus
The iCAN system is a set of modular components that talk not only to each other to transmit signals over the CAN-Bus, but also to the vehicles existing CAN Bus.
The iCAN system consists of the following components:
1 – Master Controller Module
This is the basic building block and brains of iCAN, it contains the Central Processor Unit (CPU), Memory and an SD Card Slot. Program Variables for the system are programmed using a PC and supplied software. This data is then stored on an readily available SD Memory Card and inserted into the Controller Module. The advantages of using SD Memory are many. Program updates and changes are easily implemented by reprogramming the SD or simply swapping it out. Updated programs can be emailed to your customers and they simply copy it onto the SD Card and reinsert into the iCAN Controller. The controller also features a minimal set of inputs for other functions such as battery monitoring or emergency shutdown etc.
2 - Output Module
Output modules contain 6 x 15 amp Mosfet Relays that are each controlled by the controller module. They also contain 1 Digital Input and 1 Analogue Input for remote feedback to the controller module, this enables the use of a limit switch or rotary encoder if required to provide feedback to the system.
3 - Input Module
Input modules provide a set of Digital Programmable inputs, either positive or negative plus analogue inputs for variable input applications, such as encoders, temperature sensors or level indicators. The variable inputs are also handy for monitoring voltage and current. Input modules are commonly used for providing system switch input. For larger projects we can produce Custom Switch Panels to your design. (See Human Interface Module)
4 - Secondary Modules
a - Display Module
Display Modules are available that can display basic functions of the vehicle CAN Bus. Custom made Displays are also available on request for larger runs to suit specific requirements, for example system status monitoring etc.
b - Human Interface Module
These modules are customisable switch panels to suit specific mass produced applications such as building 100 Ambulance etc where the switch layout will be identical each time.
