iCAN Controller Area Nework System  System Overview iCAN allows control signals from multiple devices such as switch panels or sensors to be sent across the network, via an iCAN  Master Control Module. This central control device interprets the signals and and applies any pre-progammed logic to the appropriate attached output device/s (eg a light or siren). Logic can be as simple as 'only turn on water pump if sensor on vehicle transmission shows gears set to PARK and sensor on handbrake shows handbrake is engaged' or as complex as is required to deliver the required functionality. With this 'intelligent' multiplexed system, there is no need to have individual power and control cables connected between every switch and its corresponding device. Instead, a common twisted pair backbone (just like an office computer network backbone) connects all nodes on the backbone, to which multiple input and output devices are wired via modular harnesses. This obviates the need for complex cabling looms. What makes iCAN unique is that the system can be re-programmed, even remotely, using a removable SD Memory Card. In this way, even installed systems remote from the body builder can be modified, allowing updates such as bug fixes or enhanced fail-safe routines to be loaded quickly, even at remote locations, without the need for a skilled technican.
